Character Sketches
Ashley
Went to work in San Francisco after attending college there. She is an accountant with an eye for detail. But when she's caught embezzling money from white collar criminals, she flees the city and returns to Midpoint, hoping to hide out until the dust settles.
John Bradford
He owns the roadside diner and donated a year’s salary when Ashley answered a want ad for a dispatcher and manager of the sheriff's office.
Bill Rascoe
Ashley and Emily's grandfather, a hard-drinking, whiskey-swilling cowboy. In 1967, his alcoholism caused his young wife to run off and join the flower children in San Francisco's Haight Ashbury district.
Blake Coleman
An ambitious deputy who hopes to be sheriff one day. He becomes romantically entangled with Ashley before learning that she's a fugitive from justice.
Emily
Too wild, in her grandfather's estimation, this 29-year-old sharp-tongued critic is the identical twin sister of Ashley.
Jacob "Twenty-One" Black Elk
He's a former US Marine and a close friend of John Bradford; he works for John as a cook at the roadside diner.
