Poetry

This page began with a desire to build a daily writing habit. I wanted to read a lot and write a lot. So, I challenged myself to read and write every day. Here are a few of my recent poems:

One-Eyed Jack

One-eyed jacks are wild
At least that's what they tell me
Wild until they're not
That's not so fucking crazy
Because One-Eyed Jack's a horse.

Socks

Feet are tired and sore
Legs stiff from walking rough terrain
Both my socks have holes
Holes like Grandma used to darn
From miles in my well-worn boots

A Kind Eye

His eye signifies
Quiet, calm, and relaxed
A kind eye, they say
Communicates his mental state
And his value as a horse

Fall

Shadows growing long
Reaching across green pastures
Horses chuff, grazing
Grazing among wildflowers
Black-eyed Susan welcomes fall

Under Clouds in Red Dawn Sky

Clouds in red dawn sky
White horse stomps, then licks and chews
Cattle egrets eat.
If they wait, crawlies plenty
Under clouds in red dawn sky
